Ski Granby Ranch Helps Laredo Elementary School Students Learn to Ski, Board
- Colorado resort introduces 51 first-time 5th graders to skiing, snowboarding -

Granby, Colo. – Granby Ranch, the four-season mountain getaway located less than two hours from Denver near the town of Granby, recently hosted 51 first-time ski and snowboarders from Laredo Elementary School in East Aurora, a school that serves a diverse neighborhood of Colorado families.

According to their teacher, Amy Scheuers, some of the fifth graders had never been to the mountains before. “I put together the ski and snowboarding trip because I wanted to give our students an opportunity to experience the mountains instead of just seeing them from our school,” explains Scheuers.

Scheuers signed up each student for the Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) Fifth Grade Passport, a lift ticket program that allows all fifth graders in Colorado to receive free lift access to 20 resorts. She also arranged for her students to take advantage of CSCUSA’s First Class program. First Class works in conjunction with the Fifth Grade Passport to provide a beginner lesson to kids who have never skied or snowboarded. This all happened during the month of January, which is National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Scheuers arranged for her students to learn at Ski Granby Ranch.

“We were thrilled when Ms. Scheuers contacted us to partner with her on this incredible project, and it didn’t take any time at all for all of us at Granby Ranch to agree that this was something we wanted to do,” says Wenda Huseman, V.P. of Marketing & Sales at Granby Ranch. “Introducing first-timers to skiing and snowboarding is one of our instructors’ specialties, and it was such a joy for all of us to be a part of this experience with Ms. Scheuers’ class.”

Huseman adds that Granby Ranch – with its laid-back attitude and family-friendly vibe is perfect for those just learning to ski and board who might be intimidated at other big resorts. “Ski Granby Ranch offers a central meeting point – with all trails starting at one point and ending at another. It’s not crowded, it’s incredibly safe and it’s really accessible and accommodating to all levels of boarders and skiers.”

About Granby Ranch (www.granbyranch.com)
Located just 90 minutes from Denver and just 15 minutes from Winter Park and the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby Ranch is not a typical mountain getaway. It’s a peaceful mountain retreat that allows people to be closer to the mountains. At Granby Ranch it’s not about the resort; it’s about Colorado’s great outdoors. After connecting with nature, guests and residents connect with one another by gathering at the Grill, around the fire pit for drinks or s’mores and at the dining hall. Granby Ranch delivers Colorado skiing for less than other mountain resorts and strongly appeals to families and empty nesters who can stay in a privately owned slope-side condo, townhome, cabin or luxury home rental on their Colorado mountain getaway. Year-round activities range from fishing and golfing to biking and skiing.
