Granby Ranch Announces Winter Food Drive Event, Dec. 11-14

Dec 04, 2014

Granby, Colo. – Granby Ranch, the four-season mountain getaway located less than two hours from Denver, today announced details for its upcoming charity event to “Carve Away Hunger”. The event coincides with the ski resort's opening weekend, Dec. 11-14, and supports the local nonprofit Mountain Family Center (MFC) and their annual food distribution to hungry children, the Food Totes Program and to stock the food pantry. Ranch visitors can deliver non-perishable food items for the Totes Food program and receive a discounted lift ticket on Dec. 11, 12, and 14. Those who bring a full bag of food on Dec. 13 receive a free lift ticket! A suggested shopping list can be found at Granby Ranch's event page and on Facebook.

Participants can also get a $2 beer from Granby Ranch Grill by posting photos to social media with hashtag: #CarveAwayHunger.

In 2013, Granby Ranch collected 546 pounds of food for the MFC food pantry. The food is distributed by MFC to the community and to schoolchildren, grades K-8, who experience food insecurities at home.  Every weekend of the school year, Sept. to May, kids in need are sent home with a tote bag of non-perishable food. The program reaches about 325 children each year.

From rent and food assistance to nutrition and fitness classes and more, the Mountain Family Center is dedicated to helping those in need through a variety of collaborative community services. For the past 25 years, the organization has coordinated a Christmas Project that matches sponsor families with families who are not able to provide gifts for their children. Sponsor volunteer forms will be available at Granby Ranch’s food drop and can also be found at MFC's website.

Helen Morton Sedlar, Executive Director of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, says “Between our two food pantry locations in Granby and Kremmling, MFC has seen 30% growth in visits.  There is no way MFC could fulfill the needs within Grand County on its own.  Only through community can drives and fundraisers can MFC begin to serve the needs of those who visit either location.  It is a community effort and we are thankful for the support from Granby Ranch.”

The annual food drive is just one of the ways Granby Ranch embraces community connection and a family-friendly atmosphere on the mountain. Learn more about Granby Ranch and plan a visit at www.granbyranch.com, or take advantage of a lodging package by calling 888.850.4615.

About Granby Ranch
Located just 90 minutes from Denver and just 15 minutes from Winter Park and the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby Ranch is not a typical mountain getaway. It’s a peaceful mountain retreat that allows people to be closer to the mountains. At Granby Ranch it’s all about Colorado’s great outdoors. After connecting with nature, guests and residents connect with one another by gathering at the Grill and the fire pit for drinks or s’mores. Granby Ranch delivers Colorado skiing for less than other mountain resorts and strongly appeals to families and empty nesters who can stay in a privately owned slope-side condo, townhome, cabin or luxury home rental on their Colorado mountain getaway. Year-round activities range from fishing and golfing to biking and skiing.
