An online guide has listed two Grand County mountain bike parks among the best in the state. Both Bike Granby Ranch and Trestle Bike Park were named to Mountain Advisor’s list of the five best mountain bike parks in Colorado. Mountain Advisor is an online adventure travel guide owned by the same parent company as Transworld and Bike magazines. Trestle took the second spot, while Granby Ranch was fifth.
“It’s good,” said Jamie Wolter, Granby Ranch’s bike park manager, of the recognition. “It’s exciting. One of the big goals is to improve upon the existing cross-country network and ultimately to expand that, though that’s probably a little further out,” said Jamie Wolter, bike park manager at Granby Ranch
Both Granby Ranch and Trestle offer unique opportunities for all varieties and skill levels of mountain biking. Trestle recently announced the addition of a new one-third mile beginner trail known as the Green Horn-It! The new trail, which runs adjacent to the Coca-Cola Tubing Hill, is designed to give beginners, particularly kids, a taste of gravity biking with features like rollers, banked turns and a pump track. It’s part of Trestle’s push to brand itself as a family destination for mountain biking. Earlier this month, mtbparks.com named Trestle as the best bike park in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States.
Granby Ranch is also in the process of revamping itself after completing a bicycle development master plan last fall, Wolter said. “One of the big goals is to improve upon the existing cross-country network and ultimately to expand that, though that’s probably a little further out,” Wolter said.
Granby Ranch is currently one of the few regional mountain bike parks that offer lift served cross county biking, a perfect option for bikers who want a less intense but equally enjoyable experience. “You can still go out and have a great ride,” Wolter said of Granby Ranch’s cross-country trails. “It’s not that you won’t do any climbing, but you wont have to start with a 1.5 mile, 1,000-foot vertical climb to start your adventure.”
Granby Ranch also offers downhill mountain biking and a full line of demo bikes from brands like Kona and Intense. Trestle is currently scheduled to open June 13, while Granby Ranch hopes to open on May 22, weather permitting.
